President Unveils Landmark “One House, One Family” Housing Policy to Ensure Every Family Has a Home
Accra, Ghana,October 1, 2025. The Office of the Presidency today announced the launch of a bold new national policy initiative titled “One House, One Family,” aimed at tackling housing insecurity and guaranteeing every family in the country access to a dignified, affordable home. The first phase of housing construction under this initiative is set to begin in January 2026, with the first units expected to be completed by December 2026.
The “One House, One Family” policy represents a historic investment in the nation’s housing sector and a major step toward eradicating homelessness and overcrowded living conditions. This people centered initiative will prioritize low-income families, vulnerable populations, and first-time homeowners. Under the first phase, the government plans to construct 50,000 modern, eco-friendly housing units across key urban and rural regions, with future phases expanding further based on regional housing needs.
“This is more than just a housing policy , it’s a statement of our national values,” said [ ADDO EMMANUEL SOWAH ], Head of Communications at the Office of the Presidency. “Every family deserves the stability, dignity, and security that comes with having a place to call home. With ‘One House, One Family,’ we are putting people first and laying the foundation for inclusive growth.”
The initiative will also drive economic development by creating over 200,000 jobs in construction, materials, logistics, and related sectors over the next five years. It includes provisions for affordable financing, community infrastructure (such as roads, clinics, and schools), and a green building strategy that aligns with the country’s climate resilience goals.
“We are working hand in hand with local governments, development partners, and the private sector to ensure this initiative succeeds,” said Mrs. Angela B. Kunda, a senior representative of the National Housing Development Authority. “It’s not just about building homes, it’s about building communities.”
